(*4-Step Charging)

Battery Charging Process for Optimate 1 Duo

Step 1: Low Voltage Recovery (4V to 8.8V)

LED Indicator: LED #2 flashing

The charger limits current to 200mA, allowing the battery to gently recover to a safe voltage level of 8.8 volts. Once it reaches this threshold, the unit delivers current up to 0.6A in pulses to prepare the battery for normal charging.

Charge Time: Minimum 15 minutes, maximum 2 hours

Step 2: Bulk Charge

LED Indicator: LED #2 steady

During the BULK CHARGE stage, the charger delivers a constant current of about 0.6 amps maximum into the battery until it reaches 14.2-14.5V.

Step 3: Verification

Duration: 30 minutes

The program spends 30 minutes verifying the charge level. If the battery needs additional charging, the program returns to BULK CHARGE for brief periods, delivering variable current pulses to the battery. These reversions repeat as many times as necessary to reduce the battery's current demand below 200mA at 13.6V—indicating the battery has accepted as much charge as its condition allows.

Note: For safety, there's an overall charge time limit of 24 hours. After this period, the program automatically advances to Step 4.

Step 4: Maintenance Mode

Pattern: Voltage retention tests alternate with battery maintenance every 30 minutes

Voltage Retention Test
  • The charger delivers NO CHARGE CURRENT for up to 30 minutes or until voltage drops below 13.3V
Maintenance
  • Float charge maintains a safe voltage limit of 13.6V with up to 0.6A available
  • The battery can draw current as needed to support small loads and counter self-discharge
  • Maintenance and voltage retention test periods continue alternating every 30 minutes until you disconnect the battery
