HOW TO USE OPTIMATE 4 QUAD

1. Included Accessories

O-04 Battery Clips

Used to connect directly to the two terminals of the battery. You can charge while the battery is still installed on the vehicle (just open the cover/seat to expose the terminals) or remove the battery if preferred.

O-01 Battery Lead

Permanently installed on the battery to create a quick charging point on the vehicle. For subsequent charges, simply plug the charger into the O-01 connector without having to directly access the battery terminals. This method is very convenient for periodic charging, maintaining the battery when the vehicle is used infrequently, or for vehicle models where the battery is hard to reach.

2. Charging Steps

Step 1. Plug the charger into the AC power source

Step 2. Select the appropriate charging program

OptiMate 4 Quad has 4 charging programs. You need to choose the program based on the battery type (Lead-acid or Lithium LFP) and the method of connection (directly or via the DIN CAN-bus socket of BMW/Ducati/Triumph).

Program 1: Direct charging for Lead-acid batteries

Program 2: Charging Lead-acid batteries via the DIN CAN-bus port

  •  Only for BMW/Ducati/Triumph models with a DIN port. Requires O-19 or O-09 adapter cables to charge through this port.
  • If the battery is too weak or deeply discharged, it is recommended to remove the battery from the vehicle for best recovery.

Program 3: Direct charging for Lithium (LFP) batteries

Program 4: Charging Lithium (LFP) batteries via the DIN CAN-bus port

  • Requires O-19/O-09 .
  • If the battery is BMS-locked or deeply discharged, the battery must be removed from the vehicle for recovery.

Step 3: Connect the charger

  • Charging with O-04 battery clips: Attach the red clip to the positive terminal (+) and the black clip to the negative terminal (–).
  • Charging with O-01 battery lead: Plug the SAE connector directly (refer to the O-01 installation guide here)

  • Charging via CAN-bus (BMW): Plug the O-19/O-09 cable into the DIN socket of the motorcycle.

3. Charging Process and LED Indicators

OptiMate automatically measures voltage to assess battery condition:

  • If the battery is healthy and voltage is stable, OptiMate will skip the recovery stage and proceed directly to the main charging stage.
  • If the battery is weak or deeply discharged, OptiMate will perform recovery before charging.

Recovery Stage (only occurs when the battery is weak or deeply discharged)

LED 3 lights up to indicate the battery is below optimal level or deeply discharged.

Depending on the battery type, the charger will automatically apply the appropriate recovery method:

  • For Lead-acid batteries (STD/AGM/GEL): OptiMate 4 Quad activates desulfation mode and applies low-current pulses to help the plates recover their ability to accept charge.
  • For Lithium (LFP) batteries: OptiMate 4 Quad activates SAVE mode or reset the BMS to restore charging capability.

Recovery time can last up to 2 hours, depending on the depth of discharge.

Main Charging Stage

During the main charge stage, OptiMate supplies the optimal charging current to bring the battery to full capacity:

  • LED 4 lights: Battery reaches approximately 50%.
  • LED 5 lights: Battery reaches approximately 75%.
  • LED 6 lights: Battery is fully charged at 100%.

Battery Retention Test Stage

After the battery is fully charged, OptiMate automatically pauses charging for about 30 minutes to check the battery's ability to hold charge:

  • LED 6 lights: Healthy battery with good charge retention (over 90%).
  • LED 7 lights: Battery is starting to weaken or voltage is dropping faster than normal.
  • LED 8 lights: Battery is noticeably weak, possibly due to aging, a damaged cell, or parasitic drain from the vehicle.

The test results help users accurately assess battery condition to determine whether replacement or further electrical system checks are needed.

24/7 Maintenance Stage

After completing the test, OptiMate switches to maintenance mode to keep the battery full and stable for long periods.

OptiMate’s maintenance mode is completely safe for long-term use, even when you leave the charger connected overnight or when the vehicle is stored for extended periods — an ideal maintenance method for large motorcycles or vehicles that sit unused for long periods.
